Please take care of yourselves out there today - always have water with you and try to take it easy the next few days. Overexposure to the sun is dangerous enough, but coupled with the humidity and the low air quality - it can affect you even if you're a "hot weather" person. So, try to take it easy today, eh?
Please also take it upon yourselves to check on elderly neighbors/friends/family. Even if you KNOW that their family/friends etc. call and visit them - make a visit anyways. Offer to go to the store for them if they need anything, walk their dog, lend them an air conditioner if you have one to offer - just do it. I know it may not be your responsibility, but it is the nice and right thing to do.
One last favor to ask.....if you drink alcohol....and you like boating...please try not to do both simultaneously. If you absolutely MUST drink alcohol and drive your boat - I'd rather you didn't - but please do so responsibly. There are other people in the world besides you, and other people on your boat that you are responsible for. Your one good day of boating and partying could turn into years in jail. Just think about that before you head out on the Lake or the Bay this summer.

Or the exemplary husband, father and contributor to society who drowned saving a rapist/murderer who had fallen into a river while escaping from prison?
Better be careful of who you term "elderly" and decide to check on - know beforehand that they agree with your assessment.
Minding other peoples' business isn't as good in secular practice as it is in Christian wisdom.

True - but, I would always risk being sued or whatever to help someone else out.
Elderly schmelderly - I'll also take the risk of asking a neighbor if they need anything or feel ok in this heat. It's the neighborly thing to do, and I've done it for years. Without being asked. They sure didn't mind when I plowed their driveways, brushed off their cars, and shoveled their walkways for them during many winters....why should it be any different in the hot/humid summer months?
Every summer I read about an elderly person who died due to the heat and nobody checking on them. Every winter I read about an elderly person dying from the extreme cold because their heat was turned off (just last winter I believe a man in Michigan died because of the cold and no heat in his house...) - and I would take a thousand whoopins with a wooden spoon to make sure that doesn't happen in my neighborhood!
"elderly" to me....is anyone my age or older. lol How's that for a definition!
...and if your cranky old @$$ doesn't like me asking if you're ok in the heat...too friggin' bad!
