Did He or Didn't He?

Did Congel pay COMIDA in 2010? I still don't know. I know the Town of Irondequoit and the EICSD were paid by COMIDA - but the Monroe County Real Property Tax Portal still shows his 2010 payment as delinquent, and there are new totals for 2011 that are due the end of January (I think). There are still no payments listed under "Payment History" for 2010 - all other years are listed.

Check it out for yourself, below:

092.05-1-85.111
092.05-85.2
092.05-1-87.1
092.05-1-20
092.05-1-84
092.05-1-18
092.05-1-17
092.05-1-19
092.05-1-16
092.05-1-9

Also, and I find this very interesting, the totals due (that shows delinquent - green check) for 2010 are higher than before...which means penalties and fees are being added to those totals. If he paid COMIDA - then the total wouldn't be going up....riiiight?

Then & Now

Andrew Jackson gets called a jackass and he uses it for the symbol of the Democratic Party - Steve Eckel gets called a jackass and he demands an apology.

Link.

Look, Steve - I get called a C**T for putting my opinions up on a blog. Don't sweat it. Sticks and stones, man. Dan should apologize, because it's the right thing to do, and we need to set an example for the children all over the world - and you have my permission to call Dan a poopy-face-tomato-nose at the next meeting and we'll call it even, ok?

Then.....maybe THEN we can get back to the business of running the county? Maybe?

Sound like a good idea?

What's this? Fun?!?! Actual Fun?!?!

Looks like the Sea Breeze FD and neighborhood peeps got it right and had some fun to celebrate a sometimes forgotten area of Irondequoit during the cold winter months.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Sea Breeze area - my great grandparents lived on Brad Street in the early 1900's, and my grandmother went to Durand Eastman School when it was built in 1914 (she was born in 1907 and my great aunt in 1911), and our family has many great memories of time spent there growing up. Simpler times I guess - but even when I was a kid many moons ago, parades were a big thing. You came out and stood along the sidelines, waving to the people passing by....waving your little flag or whatever in celebration. Treats were thrown from the people in the procession, and the kids all scrambled to get their share. Celebrating your neighborhood, or town, or country at a parade is fun. Even in winter.

This & That

"It's Legal, So It's Ethical." ~ Joe Morelle

Say what?

It was so ethical that Joe voted to change the law for anyone hired/elected after 1995 - because - we always change laws that are ethical.....riiiiiiight? Oy. Way to tap-dance around those questions!
Even NYC Mayor Bloomberg called it "the ultimate scam" - it's THAT ethical.

At least Gantt was just blunt and honest and basically told Rachel Barnhart that he "Doesn't talk to you." (Meaning white reporters named Rachel Barnhart, apparently.) I can appreciate the honesty, even though I think it's wrong to collect retirement and still "work" at the same job and collect a salary on top of it - (in quotation marks because Gantt failed to show up for 23 out of 84 session days last session.....so....uh....yeah..."work".)

See - having only a $315M deficit for fiscal year 2010-2011 is better than a Billion dollar deficit...riiiight?

Misinformation on Budget

Warning: Certain people are going around to all the blogs and spreading rampant and blatant misinformation, and also commenting on articles in the I-Post about the budget - and they are wrong.

Here's the link to the I Post article about the budget.

Here is the article:

Under the article are comments from Iohad2010 - Joe Morelle supporter - she supposedly quotes from the Supervisor and Town Board Manual (who else would have a copy of that but a former tb member?) - and never provides a link to anything she claims. She is spreading blatant misinformation - which is par for the course.

We'll go comment by comment:

So Funny

This is what I get so annoyed with - party loyalists who rail against another person for supposedly doing something, and then blatantly ignore when their own do it.

This article in the D&C titled "New Leadership Must Take The Reins In Albany" - the same day the D&C endorsed Mark Scuderi for the 132nd over Morelle.

A commenter on there said that Mark Scuderi signs were all over blocking views and near curbs in the right of way and to call and complain because it's illegal, and if he can't follow laws about signs then how can we trust him to represent us.....lol - Cheri commented that she was working on the campaign and had no calls of complaints - what e-mail did you send your complaint to? The commenter never said. Cheri asks where the illegal signs are located so she could go pick them up so they aren't a nuisance. No answer. No pictures. No proof. Just some anonymous person on the internet saying things that probably weren't true - and even if it was true.....we have this.......

Thinking

Over the weekend I had an interesting epiphany through some rather bizarre conversations at me. I say "at me" because I really didn't respond back. I just didn't know how to concisely put to words all of the thoughts I had when I was being told how wrong I was.

The gist of it - power. Power to *my* beliefs, power to what *I* believe in, power to what serves *me*. It's "survival", I was told.

Is that a Democrat or Republican philosophy? Would you be surprised if I told you it was a Democrat? Would you NOT be surprised if I told you it was a Republican?

Does it matter? (It was a Democrat by the way.)

Town Hall Is Historic - Not Histrionic

Ahhhhh - feels good for a change.

The beautiful, majestic Irondequoit Town Hall is now listed on the Town's historic registry - which protects that lovely building from ever being torn down, or from any future structural changes without going through the Preservation Committee first.

I-Post Election Goodies

Lots of letters and ads in today's I-Post. There were no letters supporting Joe Morelle, and the paid ads were a report card on Dan Maffei, and another about two incumbents and the mess in NY - both paid for by Irondequoit Citizens for Better Government inc., a non-profit organization registered with NY State: Board members are Mary Finucane, Vince Patane, Marie Moscato-Foxton, and Richard Barone.

Maffei Report Card:

Oooo-Oooo-I'm Missing Youuuuuuu

If I was a Joe Morelle Mailer - that's the song I would be singing!

What are the mailers missing?

A "Not paid for at taxpayers expense" sentence, anywhere, on any of the multitudes of mailers that Joe has sent out. I don't see a "paid for by the MCDC" or "paid for by the state democratic committee" or "paid for by the seniors first committee" or "paid for by the friend of Joe Morelle comittee" - anywhere.

Did the taxpayers pay for these mailers?

The mailers don't say who is paying for them - I'm assuming that the taxpayers did.

Morelle - Can Dish It Out, But Can't Take It?

That seems to be Joe Morelle - City News has an article up where Joe is having a temper tantrum with the MC Fair Election Practices Committee. He sent out an e-mail about it.

From the article:

"Effective immediately, I am advising all Democratic candidates to withdraw participation in the Monroe County Fair Election Practices Committee until the sponsors re-format the committee in a fair, bipartisan manner.

Like Corruption And High Taxes?

Vote the same people back in.

Obviously, NYS voters love the corruption and the dysfunction of NYS. You like the high taxes. You love that businesses move out of our state - and take our college graduates with them.

You must! You keep voting the same people back in! Do you honestly think they are going to finally "stand up" to the "leaders" after 10, 20 years in the Senate or Assembly? You really believe that? Honestly?

Having just read the appalling report from the NYS Inspector General - a 316 page report that calls the "handling" of the bidding process for choosing a video lottery terminal operator for Aqueduct Racetrack - corrupt and a "political free-for-all" - I am amazed at our apathy, and our ignorance.

Albany is FAILbany BECAUSE of those very same people you vote into office year after year after year.

Flush The Toilet And Let 'Em All Go

This video was attached to an article in the D&C and they interview a few citizens on a makeshift soapbox about their opinions on "fixing" New York.

I like the young lady at the 1:32 mark of the video who says: "You kinda gotta flush the toilet and let 'em all go and start over fresh."

Profound.

What can you do in 7,220 days?

You could possibly pay off a mortgage.

You could complete K-12 and a year (maybe two) of college.

You could witness 4 (or 5) U.S. Presidents hold office.

You could grow up and get married and have a child by now.

You could build a reputation.

You could make a career out of being a member of the NYS Assembly. (Or Senate)

Did Congel Pay His Taxes?

I was told (through articles and news reports) that he paid on March 15th - but when I click on the parcel ID #'s for the property included in the P.I.L.O.T. - it says he's still delinquent.

County tax rolls are usually filed around July 1st, so if he did pay in March, I would assume that this would be reflected in the information on the tax portal website. It isn't. It says he's still delinquent.

092.05-1-87.1

I'll use the first property as an example.

Release the Scorecards!

Unshackle Upstate is really getting into informing the public about our representatives in Albany. They have declared November 2nd as "Judgment Day", and they want the voting citizens to hold their elected officials accountable for change in our state, especially when it comes to job creation and helping our economy grow.

They've created "scorecards" as part of their "Judgment Day" campaign. From their website: "The Scorecard will be frequently updated to provide New Yorkers with information on how each of the 212 legislators vote on various pro-taxpayer and job creator legislation, as well as on this year's state budget."

Comedy or Tragedy?

I'm thinking a little of both.

A "Reality Show" couldn't write a script any better than this. It has bumbling clowns, a "shady" non-licensed private I, connected political players, appointed and elected officials, and a police report to back it all up. Incredibly entertaining.

Newsworthy? Absolutely. As much as Robutrad was - and that was on the front page of the D&C for months. Mention some shenanigans with CDR working their magic against the County Executive and her Administration, which includes names of people connected to the current Mayor who is running for Lt. Governor.....and this gets a few hours on the main page only to be buried in the archives late that night.

Funny how that all works.

Gone For 1,209,600 Seconds

Sounds like a lot....but it isn't. Not when those seconds were spent at the family cottage up in the beautiful North Country of NY!

So, I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks, and it felt great. No internet, no cell phone, no newspapers.....just family, sun, fun, and many good memories made.

Now that I'm back, I'm catching up on all that I've missed. I noticed that Failbany finally passed the budget 4 months late (and it increases spending). Just shy of the "all time record" for late budgets. Congratulations. I also noticed that the Senate passed a property tax cap, but the Assembly doesn't seem to want to. Good ol' Shelly Silver seems to think property tax caps aren't what his constituents need (even though a majority of taxpayers want a property tax cap). He thinks that providing more school aid from the state would lead to lower taxes on the local level. Even though that hasn't shown true in the past.

Well, thanks a lot Shelly! Thanks for thinking of us taxpayers who have had to live with a property tax that is 79% above the national average. Assembly Democrats don't even support bringing this issue to the floor for a vote!

Ugh, Failbany. You suck.

July 2010 Periodic Report

They are out today! Make sure you check your reps campaign finances, and see who they are working for. Google the names and addresses to find out who owns our elected officials.

Go to Monroe County BOE and on the left hover over "campaign finance", and from the drop down menu select "disclosure reports", and then I usually select "view committee by name" and type in the name I am researching.

Here are Morelle's July Periodic reports:

Public Authorities - Debt and Bonuses

A friend sent me this the other day - The Authorities Budget Office released a report detailing debt information, staffing, procurement, IDA projects approved, and public authorities delinquent lists. It's a very interesting read!

Below the ABO annual report is another report that details the bonuses paid to Public Authority staff. About $6.5 million was paid out in bonuses, on top of the very nice salaries collected.

Sizzling!

Please take care of yourselves out there today - always have water with you and try to take it easy the next few days. Overexposure to the sun is dangerous enough, but coupled with the humidity and the low air quality - it can affect you even if you're a "hot weather" person. So, try to take it easy today, eh?

Happy Independence Day!!!

HAPPY 234th BIRTHDAY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!

We will celebrate your birthday by shoving hot dogs/burgers/ribs/potato salad/macaroni salad/beer/soda etc. into our mouths. We'll eat too much. We'll drink too much. Some of us will drink wayyy too much and probably lose a finger or two setting off fireworks in your honor.

It's all good though. They're just fingers - we have 8 of them (I don't count thumbs) - so I think we can sacrifice one or two for you....good ol' USofA.

Be safe, happy, and make many memories this July 4th!

Astounding!

Remember how excited I was about RBTL choosing Midtown as their theater site? I'm still excited about the developments downtown, and I will always believe that a Broadway theater should be located in the city center. I'm just not as excited as I was after reading the articles after the big announcement.

I have a couple of issues with it. (Gee, that's odd.)

TB Meeting Last Night

Another friendly, informative meeting from the Town Board last night. I honestly do appreciate the friendly "feeling" of the board, and people smiling and getting along nicely. Everyone is friendly. It seems to be a much nicer atmosphere to conduct Town business in, and I do have to say that I appreciate ALL of you participating in that on a consistent basis. It doesn't seem fake to me, it seems genuine. When you disagree on something it doesn't come off nasty at all, it's just people disagreeing.
It's ok to disagree on things, but I do like that you are civil and friendly to each other. I think it makes a big difference. I just wanted to let you know that, again, it's a good meeting.

Good Try At Humor

....but you still have it wrong.

At least you're consistent, I'll give you that. But, being persistent at getting it wrong isn't an admirable quality really.

I was just checking out the IDC website to see if they had anything on there about the libraries, and sure enough - Irena Skrobach is on there to explain everything.

Oooooh! Tomorrow's The Big Announcement!!!

Wouldn't It Be Cool If............

Someone just sent me this along with a few comments. I don't know if this video is from a resident or the LB or anything, except that it was sent to me along with their personal views.

"this is a first draft before grand opening.

Walking The Walk

I don't know if you've noticed, but I complain a lot on here. I do...I know this, and I accept it. I don't know if everyone else is as accepting. :) But...ya know what? They may have a point in being "less receptive" to my complaining if I don't offer some type of solution, or alternative.

I know I have made some suggestions in the past, or I've said to just "do away" with some things to save some money and help municipalities run more efficiently. I don't always focus on the solutions (sometimes I do), and instead only point out the problems (a majority of the time).

While I was hanging my freshly laundered clothes out on the clothesline in the backyard today, I thought about the wonderful pot roast that was cooking for the 5 course meal I was preparing for my family in my freshly scrubbed oven that sparkled like sunshine bouncing off the water.....and I thought of the beautiful Irondequoit Bay.....and then I thought of Newport.....and then I thought of Dan Aureli.

See how the thought process of miserable housewives work?

PB Attorney 3 Month Salary

Aureli 3 month salary

Just an FYI on a FOI request submitted and received on the salary so far for the PB Attorney for legal counsel to the planning and zoning boards. Aureli charges a "modest" (for a lawyer anyways) $150 an hour for his services, and his 3 month total of 70.4 hours reflects that.

Newport Article In D&C

Link.

It's official - there is a State archaeological study being done on the project site by NYSOPRHP - and NYSDEC agrees with the archaeological recommendation, and they are still waiting on more details about grading, erosion control, and site restoration from RSM before they issue any permits.

From the article: "RSM Development, the project developers, has reduced the number of housing units and made other concessions."

They reduced the number of housing units from 58 to 54 - 1 townhouse and 3 condos - and the "concessions" they made were to remove the westernmost docks and construct a turnaround for emergency vehicles and buses etc.

That's all they have conceded to in 3 years.

Archaeological Site At Newport Project?

The following documents are in reference to RSM and incomplete applications dealing with their project. The most recent e-mail is at the top, and if you start from the bottom and read up, you will get the time line of everything a little better.
Newport Archaeological Site

Basically, the NYSDEC sent a letter to RSM on February 11, 2010 in reference to the incomplete application RSM submitted on January 27, 2010. RSM has also failed to provide the separate application to the DEC in regards to off site storm water drain work associated with Newport Road. The attachment at the bottom is the list of items that the environmental analyst for the NYSDEC sent to RSM.

Etch-A-Sketchplanation For Condo Heights

Three new documents were added to the Newport page of the Irondequoit website today (I was on the site early this morning, and they were not on there). They have added a revised resolution proposal, condo height explanation from the architects, and a fluff letter from the Conservation Board. The resolution was revised on 3/11/2010, the architects submitted their explanation and the town received them on 3/8/2010, and the CB letter was received on 3/11/2010.

Apparently, RSM has hired an etch-a-sketch expert to explain the building heights of the condos (in their own warped way) as being "difficult to define" due to the natural slope of the land and grading/entrances and whatever else they could think of. I believe the axis of the earth, the magnetic fields, and the alignment of the planets has something to do with it too....but I'm not sure.

Congel Pays His Taxes - Morelle Wants To Give Him State Aid

"I have not spoken to the developer in several months," Morelle said, "So I think we're all rightly concerned about plans he has going forward, and I think it's time that people stepped up the pressure. And, 'look you have to make a decision soon.' Obviously it's an important project and we want it to move forward, but there won't be any State Aid and I won't be advocating for State Aid until we see a lot more activity by the developer."

You're going to give him State Aid too?!?!

A while ago I had written a blog about this neat online tool that the County offers to pay/view your taxes. In the blog I looked up Medley Cen...er....I mean Lakeridge Centre, and I could view tax histories for town, county, and school district payments.

It looks like, on top of owing the Town of Irondequoit $500,000 (plus other payments that are due per the PILOT I don't know if he's paid them yet) - he is also late on paying his taxes that were due by February 10th, 2010 - and now he is accruing penalties/interest.

Check it out.

Q&A

Here are some questions that I have been asked in the past month.

Q: Is the ice skating rink going to be built?

A: No, not this year apparently. Camp Eastman land was not level enough to facilitate the ice rinks. I do not know if it's going to happen next year either.
3/3/10 MPN article on ice rink.

Q: Was Marty Piecuch fired?

Like It Or Lump It

Like it:

This is what I want to see more people do more of. Your Town/Village/City is run on taxes. Your taxes. Most people just pay their tax bills every year and complain and just forget about it until the next tax bill comes. Most people never really question it, research it, or do anything about it.

Two sure things in life: Death and Taxes.

Certainties aside, you can extend your life by living healthy, scheduling routine doctor visits, taking medicine, having surgery etc., and doing all that you need to do to take care of yourself. You pay attention to your health, you maintain it, and you change things if you find that what you are doing isn't good for you (hopefully you do.) You wouldn't sit there with a broken leg and say "Eh....it happens....just gotta deal with it." You would try to "fix it".

Protest At Morelle's Office

I guess there was a protest at Morelle's Irondequoit office today about Mayoral Control of the City School District. Joe Morelle supports Mayor Duffy's quest to take over control of the City School District, and there are many people who don't agree with this proposal of Mayoral Control.

It seems the Rochester and Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO are some of those people. They sent out an "Action Alert" for the protest today, along with a very nice picture of Joe and Bob.

Here are a couple of pictures from the protest, as the crowd chanted "Oh Joe, say it aint so. Joe HAS TO GO!"

Link to vimeo.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Town Board, very nice meeting.

Things I liked:

Skating Rink - Sweden Style

That's the Town of Sweden. Check out what they did, how they "staff" it, and paid for it.... to make their skating rink a reality.

ReMEHmber?

I haven't seen the Town Board meeting yet - but I can't wait to! I'll comment on it after I view it....but for now....

I just want to bring something to Stephanie's attention.

It's an article from 2005 when Mary Ellen was campaigning against Schantz, and the campaign questioned the Schantz administration's hiring practices, and why some Town employees do not reside in the community.

First Week Officially Over

I would imagine that "getting through" the first week is a tough one for the new Supervisor, but it seems to be going smoothly so far.

According to the twits (tweets?) at irondemocrats, "After 60 days transition, so far new administration at Town Hall has only appointed a new Bingo Inspector. 5:30 AM Jan 6th from web"

Really? That's it? Three whole days after they officially took office, they just appointed a Bingo Inspector?
