Look Over There, Not Over Here

In a classic case of "not relevant", Joe Morelle and the Irondequoit Democratic Committee (David Seeley - that is his address in the top left corner) have made the decision to distract you, the Irondequoit voter, from the issues in Irondequoit to the issues in other towns and the county via one of their mailers that list a common theme.

"Evil Republicans"!

Yes, it's true. There are baaaaaaad Republicans out there. Be afraid, Irondequoit!

There are bad Democrats too - Liiiiike Spitzer steamrolling a prostitute, or Monserrate slicing up his girlfriend's face, or George C. Wallace who was in favor of "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever". All of whom have nothing at all to do with Irondequoit either...but....it makes for good mailer fodder, doncha think?

Morelle & Seeley are either channeling the spirit of Minarik with these fear ads, or, they are just trying to distract you with things that really aren't relevant to this general election in Irondequoit.

Auberger is trying to do the same thing in Greece with his "Merritt Rahn supports Dan Maloney - a vote for Maloney is a vote for Rahn" fear tactics too.

It happens. I know people are smart enough not to fall for it.

Although....thinking about it more, no terrorist attacks have happened on Irondequoit soil since Mary Ellen became Supervisor.......I guess we are protected on her watch!

I'm running out tomorrow and voting for her! She saves me from terrorists!

lol

Basically, they don't want you to focus on a tax levy that has risen every year with no increase in services to taxpayers, a false claim that the Town Administration reduced your tax rate by 10% last year - (they didn't. The reassessment lowered the tax rate to $6.03, and then the town increased the levy by 6.3% making your tax rate $6.41 per $1,000 assessed value), a tentative 4% increase to taxpayers this year, bonding $400,000 for town building improvements - some of which haven't been done, and the public safety building heat pumps that had money bonded for it is now being covered under a grant that Maffei just awarded the town (where is that bond money?!?!), a fund balance that is below 1% (even though they passed a resolution to keep the fund balance at 5% - 20% for the health of the town and to help their credit rating), letting the Medley developers slide on paying the town the $500,000 that he owes and not enforcing the PILOT agreement for demolition to start 60 days after the entitlement date.

They don't want you to remember the way they handled the senior center issue by not letting you have a vote on the lease at King$ Pork - they don't want you to remember how Morelle tried to bribe the taxpayers with $125,000 for yes votes for the move (because he hasn't offered that grant to help the seniors or to improve Pinegrove, it was only if you all voted yes that day), they don't want you to remember the thousands upon thousands of taxpayer dollars paid to Tim Poley for the lease of King$ Pork, and the sale of Pinegrove.

You just focus on the fact that the current administration has not let Merritt Rahn, or Robert Marone into your neighborhood. Do NOT focus on the finance issues and bad decisions that have been made.

I think it's funny and a little insulting that Morelle & Seeley would think the Irondequoit taxpayers ignorant enough to fall for this old Minarik trick.

But then again......it's just typical politics. I'm not surprised.
