Miss Information...An Encore

This is page two of the Town Board Workshop on 2/12/09. Just before the vote on the 24th.

I happened to look through some old meeting minutes looking up different information about Medley Centre, and happened upon this bit of misinformation Supervisor Heyman said about the senior center.

"We would love permanent site but that would not be paid for by CDBG funds-it will be paid for by taxpayers."

Since CDBG funds are people's taxes......this is true.

But, CDBG will pay for a new Senior/Community Center.

She was quoted numerous times in different media outlets that CDBG can't be used for Pinegrove, or it can't be used on an existing building - which was entirely false - but then, at a workshop that was just before the 2/24 vote, she spreads more blatantly false information about CDBG NOT paying for a new, permanent site.

If you visit the CDBG site you can read under "eligible activities" where it says quite clearly:

"construction of public facilities and improvements, such as water and sewer facilities, streets, neighborhood centers, and the conversion of school buildings for eligible purposes;"

I don't think it covers consolidating libraries........that will "come from local taxes"......but a new, permanent Community/Senior Center is covered under CDBG.

If you click on search, and type in "community centers", a list of articles will appear. Some of them are about community centers - brand spankin' new community centers - built with CDBG funds.

......and yes, they are all built with more than 5 ft. of land around the building.

Did they really want this lease so bad that they had to lie about CDBG not funding a new, permanent site......at a public town board workshop meeting?

Or, was it more that Miss Information didn't know basic CDBG eligible activities.....even after dealing with the program as Supervisor for almost 4 years?

Maybe a little bit of both?
