Dangerous Precedents

The Town Board meeting on Tuesday, December 20th, 2011 - during the Public Input portion at the beginning of the meeting - Barone went up to speak, finished his input, then the board called Tamara D., but she wanted to speak about the MP at the Public Hearing. Then the board calls "David Allen" - and Barone says that he is there to read a letter from David Allen because Mr. Allen could not attend the meeting.

MJD says "I don't think you can do that, sir."

TB Workshop Meeting Change

The Legal Notices in the Irondequoit Post have an announcement about a change in date for the Town Board workshop meeting. Instead of Thursday the 15th - it will be on Wednesday the 14th at 4pm. Broderick Room, Town Hall.

I think this would be a good workshop to attend, as it is the one before the PB Public Hearing about Legacy on the 19th.   I know everyone is busy with the holidays, and it is at an inconvenient time for people who have jobs and all.....but it would be good for people to attend. Since they refuse to tape the workshop meetings, it is important for residents to attend in person to know what is going on.

Tonight's TBM - Action On Medley?

According to the agenda on the Town's website, the last item on the agenda says:

Supervisor 10A2011-15 Adopt a Resolution Authorizing Town Supervisor to Take Any and All Actions to Initiate Legal Action Against Bersin Properties, LLC to Enforce the Rights of the Town Under the Payment in Lieu of Tax Agreement re: Medley Centre

Interesting. I always love the last meeting before elections. So productive.

Sea Breeze Water District Audit

From January 2007 - January 2010. I thought it would be good to put this audit from last year up. Especially since the meeting last night - and because I noticed someone searched "comptroller sea breeze water district". I didn't see the Special Town Board Meeting last night - but I heard that the S.B.W.D. can't make payroll, and things don't look too good.

Cross Endorsement Ad In I-Post

Happy Labor Day! Hope you're enjoying not laboring today, and if you are laboring, bully for you! You hard worker, you. That holiday pay is niiiiiice.

There was a 4 page ad in this week's I-Post. You might have missed it since it was an insert this time instead of an ad directly on the page of the paper.

I decided to scan the ad and put it on here in a pdf - it might be a little choppy because it was an odd size ad, and it didn't fit in my scanner.....but you'll be able to read it, and it might help you understand a little better.....the process of a cross endorsement, and how your ballot might look. Barone Ad in MPN

***Note:  Christian Redder is listed as a candidate in the Democrat Primary for Town Board in this ad - but as far as I know, he is no longer interested in running for Town Board and has chosen not to run due to family reasons (.Link to I-Post story that quotes Redder as saying he is not running.)

In a nutshell, if you vote for MJD, Aldersley, and Perticone on Primary Day - you will only see those names appear on BOTH the Republican and Democrat lines in the November General Elections.

If Democrats vote for Ament in the Democrat Primary for Town Supervisor - he will win the primary and you will see Ament's name on the Democrat line, and MJD's name on the Republican line in the November General Elections. (She will have lost the Democrat primary and only appear on the Republican line.) It doesn't mean that Ament will be Supervisor - it just means his name will appear on the November ballot. You'll have a choice in November instead of MJD's name on both D&R lines.

If Republicans vote for Moore and Nottel in the Republican Primary for Town Board - they will win the primary and you will see Moore and Nottel's name on the Republican lines, and Aldersley and Perticone's names on the Democrat lines in the November General Elections. (Aldersley and Perticone would have lost the Republican primary and only appear on the Democrat line.) It doesn't mean that Moore and Nottel will be on the Town Board - it just means that their names will appear on the November ballot. You'll have a choice in November instead of Aldersley and Perticones names on both D&R lines.

So many people are confused about this cross endorsement and they don't understand the process. Some are confused on how Democrats can be on Republican primary ballots and Republicans on Democrat primary ballots - and some of them are just saying "Oh bother. This is too confusing. I'm not even going to go vote on September 13th."

Isn't that the attitude they are hoping for?

Making voter apathy even MORE apathetic? It can certainly work in their favor, that's for sure.

If you want choices this November - GO VOTE IN THE PRIMARY. They certainly aren't giving the voters any choices.

The voters have to vote to give themselves choices. How sad is that? Here are some articles about the primary, and candidate's previews in the I-Post.

More Politics At and IN Town Hall?

I mean, they actually went INSIDE Town Hall and protested Buerkle.

Why weren't these negative, political people stopped and censured!?!?

Why aren't letters written about them and unkind words spoken about them?

I commented on this one on the website because I found it highly hypocritical - one of the comments in the article.

They were protesting Buerkle because of her voting record and although she's not a registered member of the Tea Party - her vote against raising the debt ceiling aligns her with their politics.

....And the 90-something Democrats that voted right along with her against the debt ceiling must be aligned with Tea Party politics as well.

...And let's not forget in 2006 when EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT VOTED AGAINST RAISING THE DEBT CEILING because.....they must be aligned with Tea Party politics.

Obviously. They might have even invented it!

Why aren't they protesting out in front of their own Town Hall in Brighton?

It can't have anything to do with politics and wanting Republican Buerkle out and Democrat Maffei in. No. Nothing to do with politics at all.

Glad you folks at Town Hall are very choosey about what politics you allow and what politics you don't allow inside those walls. Great letter in the IPost too.
I can't wait to see the letter next week from this person scolding those political protestors who went into Town Hall and protested Buerkle. I mean, given the political climate today, electing a new Congressperson every two years is just disruptive and counter productive. Buerkle spent one year to really understand the job and then she must spend the second year campaigning to keep that job and in the end is unable to accomplish what she campaigned to do. If you are like this letter writer, and you think it is refreshing to live in a community where members of opposing political parties will put aside politics and cooperate with each other for the benefit of the voters, and, if you also agree that electionsevery two years for Congress members are needlessly expensive and time-consuming, then go to the polls and vote for cooperation and common sense.....right?
I bet she wants us to vote for Buerkle because....you know....it's not about politics. It's about what she....er...we want, and it's about moving the town and country forward with people who think and vote just like me!

Um, Yes, Really.

UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF BLOG 6/17:

May 17th, 2011 Town Board Meeting.

At the May 17 Board Meeting there was a Public Hearing to discuss programs to spend federal Tax Dollars from HUD in the CDBG program. Part of that dealt with the roof at Pinegrove.

Some residents had raised the question of how much work or how much money needs to be spent on the roof. They thought it might be too much, and could that money go for the "poor people" it is intended to help instead of an overpriced roof.

First Week Officially Over

I would imagine that "getting through" the first week is a tough one for the new Supervisor, but it seems to be going smoothly so far.

According to the twits (tweets?) at irondemocrats, "After 60 days transition, so far new administration at Town Hall has only appointed a new Bingo Inspector. 5:30 AM Jan 6th from web"

Really? That's it? Three whole days after they officially took office, they just appointed a Bingo Inspector?

Medley Special Meeting & Newport Public Hearing & EISD Board Meeting - All Tomorrow!

The Town Board of the Town of Irondequoit will hold
a Special Town Board Meeting at the Irondequoit Town Hall, in the Broderick Room, 1280 Titus Avenue, on Monday, March 9, 2009 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm for Discussion and Action on the Medley Centre Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) Agreement.

PUBLIC INPUT WILL OCCUR AFTER THE PRESENTATION OF THE PILOT AGREEMENT TO ALLOW FOR INFORMED DISCUSSION.

PLEASE ATTEND to let the Town know your concerns.

Right after this Town Board Special Meeting...head on over to the Public Hearing regarding the DEIS for the Newport property.

OR Head over to the EISD for their meeting on the Medley Centre project:

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of the East Irondequoit Central School District, March 9, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the District Central Office, Rm. 148, 600 Pardee Road.

Here's a link to the agenda.

A concerned resident has sent an e-mail to the Town, respectfully asking them to table the resolution authorizing the PILOT agreement until the public has had more of a chance to digest all this information, and more public discussion has occurred.

The e-mails are as follows:

The funniest part is that 5 days between the PILOT release and today (Wednesday - Sunday) gave her enough time, at 10 pages per day, to read an 85 page document. I hope she didn't apply this same math to her analysis of the PILOT! :-)

Upcoming Special Town Board Meeting On PILOT

Public input is after the presentation, and please, no clapping!

Didn't know about this......there was a 'get together' consisting of the Supervisor, and the EI Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent at the Administrative Offices of the EISD on Wednesday, 3/4 at 11am.

Very nice of them to schedule a "question" time, but it is an inconvenient time of day for a lot of working people. When this happens (scheduling meetings for public questions/concerns at these times) nobody can show up to voice their concerns or ask questions because they are working, and then, the Town Board will say something like "Well, nobody came to the meeting to ask questions, so......"

It happens quite frequently.

Let's Talk About Hypocrisy...........

This was recently added to the Town website.
Here is the link to the Town Code.

I guess they felt the need to put this on the website, because of this:

Apparently, rules of behavior only apply to "the public". The Town attorney can disrespect a member of the public, but that public better not clap!

I remember a meeting a little over a year ago where members of the public booed at a speaker during public input, and there was massive amounts of clapping from the ones that booed too.......but that was in favor of the Supervisor, so that was ok.

Link to letters archive at MPNnow.

Is Hammer/Sickle syndrome contagious? I sure hope not.

GO VOTE! Polls Open Until 8pm!

I hope you went and voted! If you haven't voted yet, the polls are open until 8pm tonight at Town Hall - 1280 Titus Ave!

This morning and afternoon, Town Hall was bustling, a senior was on the corner holding a neon sign that said "VOTE NO to $18,000 a month lease!", there was a long line to get in and vote.

It was great to see this! No matter what way you are voting, the scene of residents having a voice and making the decisions by a vote is a wonderful thing to witness.

I hope it's this busy when November rolls around!

Great turnout so far, Irondequoit!

I've been watching the propaganda from the Supervisor on the news, all channels, and one particular channel played the "visual sway" (is what I call it) game.

They take the crappiest shot of one thing, and the nicest, most visually appealing shot of another thing to "sway" your opinion.

Take, for instance, the recent interview with the supervisor at King$ Pork.

They show the long, stretching-for-miles it seems, green awning side of the building on a bright sunny day, making you think that this is where the seniors are going to be moving to.

Only, it's not a shot of the possible new senior side of King$ Pork. It's the MCC Staff side.

Then, they show you a sweeping shot of the pot holed, ratty looking parking lot with Pinegrove in the background. One lonely car in the parking lot. Dreary day.

That's "Visual Sway", and advertisers have been doing it for decades to you in their commercials.

Here are the screen shots of the video to show you.

King$ Pork MCC side:

Pinegrove Parking Lot:

Oh, just so ya know......the Pinegrove parking lot repaving is covered under CDBG, according to Page 2 of the 2009 Budget Recreation Center Analysis.

But they'd rather give that money to out of state landlords in MA.

Here's the entrance for the seniors at King$ Pork:

Here's the backside (and it is a backside) of King$ Pork with the scenic views that our seniors will look upon every day.

Isn't that delightful?

Workshop Meeting on Medley 1-29-09!!!!! And other notices....

Because the Town really cares what you, the residents, think about the Medley Centre Environmental Impact Statement, they have scheduled a workshop meeting about it at 4pm tomorrow.

So what if you work until 5? Too bad.

The Town cares what you have to say!!!! That's why they scheduled it at 4pm!!!
